In keeping with community involvement in the town as it develops, the Estate held one of the first, if not the first, large scale community planning workshops to design the town from first principles.
The process, known as a Charrette, was led by world leading masterplanner Duany Plater-Zyberk & Co, www.dpz.com, and one of their founding partners, Andres Duany.
The two week event was held in September 2006 and, together with specialist stakeholders, like government agencies, 600 members of local communities participated in the development of the initial masterplan.
The Charrette was a major public exercise involving significant community engagement including 2 newspapers to nearly 9,000 households in the wider area.
We even made it onto C4 news!
The newspapers, which help tell the story and to illustrate the enormous output from the Charrette can be downloaded below.
